Welcome to Thelma B. Thompson's Official Page,
HELMA B. THOMPSON, was born in Jamaica, and identifies as an African American and often calls herself a ‘Jamerican’. She studied English Literature and Classics at Howard University and taught at several universities until she accepted administrative and leadership positions. Recently retired as the president of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, she is frequently asked to speak publicly and to assist institutions with accountability and accreditation. She is currently a distinguished professor of English at Bowie State University. Thelma Thompson maintains an interest in Caribbean literature. She wrote her master’s thesis on poets, Derek Walcott and Edward Kamau Brathwaite. She is particularly interested in the traditional family and its diverse variations from a global perspective. She has devoted herself to serving youth. Although published in other genres, Bay Leave and Cinnamon Sticks this is her first novel.
